Operation Enduring Freedom - War in Afghanistan (2001 - present)
Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name used by the U.S. Government
for its contribution to the War in Afghanistan, together with three smaller
military actions, under the umbrella of its Global War on Terror. The operation
was originally called "Operation Infinite Justice", but this phrase had
previously been restricted to the description of God, and it is believed
to have been changed to avoid offense to Muslims. On October 5, 2006, NATO
officially took over control of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
